Appointment Policy
At High Point we want to provide our patients with prompt medical attention and believe we can do this best by using an appointment only schedule. This allows our staff to have your pets' medical history available to the doctors upon your arrival (which means less time spent waiting for our clients). As with any hospital, of course, emergencies are treated right away.

Pre-surgical Policy
Our standard pre-surgical policy for cats and dogs is No Food after 6 PM and No Water after midnight (So, put the toilet lid down before bedtime!) Of course there can be exceptions to this rule, if your pet has a medical condition for example or is on medication. If you are not sure, please contact our office and our staff will be happy to advise you. Smaller animals such as ferrets, rabbits and other "pocket pets" do require special instructions prior to surgery and you will be instructed on an individual basis by your veterinarian.
At High Point we offer blood work prior to all surgical procedures. While not mandatory, we certainly encourage our clients to take advantage of having a pre-anesthetic profile done prior to their pet undergoing anesthesia. The anesthesia is filtered through the kidneys and metabolized in the liver which makes it important to know before anesthesia is administered if these organs are working properly. This blood work allows us to catch problems early and to avoid complications under anesthesia. The blood work is done in-house in our lab that morning or can be done during an appointment prior to your pet's scheduled surgery. Another benefit to having a blood profile done is to create a baseline for future reference for our doctors should your pet become ill in the future and need repeated blood work at that time.

Overnight Patients
For our overnight patients, we do not have someone on the premises after hours. However, when we have hospitalized patients the doctor on call does make routine visits to the hospital after hours to monitor them and provided them with the medical attention needed.
